Lomar Thobe

There was a time, in Malaysia, that wearing robe is not macho enough, too Arabic, classics, outdated, etc. I think the time have change, may be the robe will be a fashion again. Like hijab, the evolution of clothes in modern society have make the wear look attractive. Even I dont prefer to wear a robe, may be I should look into it.

Introduce by my friend through FB. A designer robe, Lomar Thobe make movement to make sure the survival of their Arab culture. Actually, fashion is about perspective, and popularity. As eastern culture have been blooming, there are an opportunity to show the world what middle east really are.

Beware!! Here come, the terrorist, hahaha. (I always want to write this).

So what do you think?

Thobes are always in style. These thobes remind me of what George Carlin wore in the movie, “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure” and also what Neo wore in The Matrix trilogy. I’m not sure when wearing these new design thobes would be practical. From the Sunnah, I know that we should wear our best clothes for Solat and for Eid (Raya). Is there a listed price for these outfits? Wondering if maybe dressing so fancy may be a form of “showing off” but I would love to wear one for Raya this year. :-)

    • Waalaikumusalam,
The are a link in 2nd passage, the price start with US160.

Actually, I thought thobe is a part of brand name, seem it was a type of clothes. I was so naive.

This Eid (raya) sure cool. You already know some malays word. Hehehe

  2. Not macho enough? Strange I never associated the thobe with anything other than masculine.
And one just needs to take a look at the Muhajababes in any Dubai Mall to see how cool the hijab can be.

  3. There was a time this one not popular.

Normally in Malaysia, we dont wear thobe. But we have similar cloths called “jubah”, wear by scholar, normally plain white. There not much variance here and Muslim here have a clothes called “baju melayu” (Malay) and “palayakat (, which differ from South Asia & Middle East.

    Culture is fascinating.
