The final series of “Empire of Faith” – The Ottomans. The study of rise, expansion, stagnation and decline of Ottomans empire. In the peak of Ottomans empire, it was one of the biggest nation in those time. In this era, Ottomans ruler are just, merciful. During the decline of Ottomans, many of their ruler are weak and tyrant.
In Ottomans kingdom, there are 2 different era: 1) Era of just & respectful rulers, 2) Era of weak & puppet rulers.

In 2000, PBS produce a documentary of Empire of Faith – Prophet Muhammad and Rise of Islam directed by Robert Gardner. A powerful nation that define from purely faith and religion. A civilization that founded by a prophet named Muhammad bin Abdullah (peace be upon him).

BBC 4 UK has done a good job (but not great) to publish such a good documentary. Even I can not agree for certain fact that being raise in documentary, but it should be enough to shut the mouth of others who condemn Islam in public without even seeing for himself.
Some rant that I suppose to said it here:
1) Why when describing prophet Muhammad, there was a scene of Arab smoking “Shisha”. It was forbidden in Islam and consider as poison.
2) Why take Jordan Princess, there was a lot more woman scholar that can describe in better way.
3) Even some fact I can’t agree with non-Muslim commentary, but it should be acceptable to take opinion from non-Muslim regarding certain issue.
4) Second revelation is not Quran 93, it was the second portion of the Qur’an revealed to the Prophet Muhammad was the beginning of Sura al-muddaththir (74: 15). It now consists of 56 verses, the rest revealed later, and begins as follows:
‘O you, covered in your cloak, arise and warn, thy Lord magnify, thy raiment purify, pollution shun …’ (Sura al-muddaththir 74: 15)
5) Why “Satanic Verse” come to place. It was not related to any Muhammad pbuh life.

The second part (2 of 2 part) is focus on Second and Third Crusade , why it happen when it happen , and how it happen. The clash between 3 religion, Jewish, Christian and Islam. Most of the part is focus between Christian and Islam.
Even this is documentary is based on Western perspective, the view and the explanation are being neutral.
The second Crusade are focus on how Christian capture Jerusalem, betrayal between Christian kingdom, clash between tribe, bribery and etc.
Third Crusade focus on how Islam recapture back the Jerusalem, clash between 2 knight of 2 religion, Sultan Saladin and King Richard. How both fighting with each other- honor, barbarian, slaughtering, and capturing Jerusalem is essence of the Third Crusade.

This is the starting point where Christianity in Western Europe have meet and clash with civilized Islam in Eastern Europe. This is new era of Christianity in Europe and Middle East. Blood, War, Politics, Money,Cheating, Betraying are the assent of First Crusade.
What I struck a most is the behavior of Crusade Knight that being described in documentary and Wikipedia note after the siege of Jerusalem.

The moderator is Bettany Hughes is a historian, author and broadcaster who has spent the last twenty years sharing knowledge about the world’s civilizations and culture with a wide audience. She is a Research Fellow of King’s College London and has been made an Honorary Fellow of Cardiff University. She has taught at Bristol, Manchester, Oxford and Cambridge Universities.
The two hour programme reminded us that in Spain, Islam was a culture of phenomenal innovation which continually emphasized the importance of learning. France’s largest library at the time contained 700 books. The library in Cordoba, Spain, on the other hand, contained over half a million volumes. People converted to Islam because they believed the religion was attractive and offered them something of value. The Muslims in Spain built a culture that was the very pinnacle of civilized life. And when later the rest of Europe underwent a massive intellectual and cultural revolution – the Renaissance, the programme convincingly asserted that the Renaissance was the continuation of an intellectual process that had begun centuries earlier in Islamic Spain.
After been vast studies of history, there was no others religion that have a vast and dynamic structure of economy, politics and knowledge. Why most non- Muslim converted to Muslim at the time. It because of the religion itself have their own law in governance the wealth, social structure and intellectual power.

This is quite interesting stories by Morgan Spurlock. A Christian lives in Muslim house for 30 days. I am also surprise that majority of American see Muslim as a people who lives in desert and holding gun. If today I hold gun, for sure my Muslim policeman will caught me up and put in jail. Hahahaha. What a narrow mind.
But for a second thought, it seem like media has bring a lot of contribution to American’s mind toward what Islam are.
